A new 92-room waterfront hotel is scheduled to open this summer on Tampa Bay. Every room will have a view of the water.
Developer Savni Bakrac, with the backing of Bakrac Incorporated, is constructing The Galaxy Hotel at 101 3rd Ave. N.
Mark Stephenson, of Matta Architecture on Treasure Island, designed the high-rise hotel, which will have rooms ranging from 400 square-foot to 800-square foot suites complete with balconies, separate living rooms and kitchenettes.
Bakrac believes that the hotel will be the best in downtown St. Pete. “The windows will be floor to ceiling. Can you imagine that view?”
The Galaxy will feature a 5,000 square-foot Italian restaurant, whose name Bakrac said he is not yet ready to release. It will also have a rooftop breakfast area, which will resemble a large porch where guests can enjoy their coffee and a straight-ahead view of Tampa Bay.
Bakrac Inc. also owns the 1920s Ponce De Leon Hotel at 95 Central Ave. in St. Pete.
The Galaxy will not be the only hotel-related business new to St. Pete. The Scott is a new downtown destination featuring coffee to cocktails. It is set to open in April. Duane and David Hogg and their Hogg Batch Coffee are partnering with the bar. The Scott, which features an old Hollywood theme, is located at 253 2nd Ave. N. in the recently renovated lobby at The Cordova.
