More than 100 applicants are expected to get in line for the opportunity to spend nine months learning leadership skills to effect positive change in the region.

Leadership Tampa Bay will accept 60 applicants once the window closes July 9. The nine-month leadership program begins in September 2021 and runs through June 2022, including three overnight trips, numerous daylong studies and more.

“It is a true regional program, encompassing Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk Counties,” said Jason Baker, a board member for the group and its marketing and communications chair.

“Those who gain access are typically in a leadership role or in a rising role and are very interested in actively seeking to tackle the big challenges in Tampa Bay,” Baker said. “They have a commitment to effect change and solutions that affect all of the area, as well as their own company.”

The right applicant is one who has a community commitment and someone committed to all aspects of the leadership program, including learning about the area’s nonprofits, its industries, its government and the region, Baker said.

Tuition is $,3,000-$4,000 and there is a $100 application fee.

“We have a panel interview process and board members make recommendations to the selection committee,” Baker said. “It’s tough and we get a lot of really, really strong applicants, strong leaders.”
