In an effort to expand internet access for its patrons, Pinellas County residents can now get Wi-Fi hotspots from the St. Pete Library System. All you need is your library card!

The St. Petersburg Library System is now offering Wi-Fi hotspots available for loan for library card holders. The hotspots are free to loan, and can be found at most St. Petersburg libraries. This new program was established in an effort to expand internet access to the Pinellas County area and increase access to online resources, culture, and more for citizens who need it most.

Hotspots can be borrowed for up to 14 days at a time and must be returned from the same library branch where it was borrowed at the circulation desk. Borrowers will only be charged if the hotspot is returned late, and anyone with a library card is welcome to use them.

Hotspots work like any public Wi-Fi access but can be used on the go when other Wi-Fi networks are not available. They are useful for travel, leisure, or home use if Wi-Fi is not available. By offering this service, the St. Petersburg Library system can help students gain temporary Wi-Fi access for school; allow residents to look for online resources without Wi-Fi access at home; or simply provide Wi-Fi in places where it is not readily available, such as one of St. Petersburg’s many state parks.

“This is a step in the right direction for internet accessibility and equity in St. Pete. This offering will be a great way for library patrons to get online when and where they need,” said Mika Nelson, Director of the St. Petersburg Library System.
