Experience The Moth at Tampa Theatre This September

The Moth, a live storytelling event, is coming to the Tampa Bay area for the first time on September 29. The show will feature a diverse lineup of guests telling their personal stories of adventure, struggle, redemption, creativity and more. Ticket prices range from $40 to $50, although there are VIP tickets that include admission to the After Party with The Moth cast and WUSF personalities, complimentary beer & wine, and light hors d’oeuvres.

What is The Moth?

The Moth was created by novelist George Dawes Green in 1997. Green, a native of Georgia, was living in New York City. He wanted to recreate the feeling of sultry summer evenings in his native Georgia. A time when moths would be attracted to the porch light where his friends would gather and tell tales. The first New York Moth event was held in George’s New York City living room. From there, the storytelling events spread to larger and larger venues.

Each Moth show starts with a theme which the storytellers explore, often in unexpected and creative ways. Each story is true, and every voice is unique, so the shows blur the line between documentary and theatre.
