Photo League at FMoPA Returns

FMoPA — Florida Museum of Photographic Arts.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts Photo League has returned and is helping photography lovers expand their craft and meet other members of the community. The Photo League of FMoPA is open to all who are interested in education, inspiration, camaraderie and photography. Started back in 2010, the purpose of the Photo League is to pursue the interests of members and, in doing so, help them improve their skills and creativity in photography. The next meeting will be held on August 28.

Photo League at FMoPA

The Photo League presents speakers of interest to photographers. It also provides photo opportunities and programs to improve understanding and expertise. Previous speakers include:

  • Joseph Gamble. Fine Art Photographer, teacher, the Issacson School.
  • Edmund Fountain. Widely published Award-winning Photo-Journalist, Pulitzer prize finalist.
  • Melissa Lyttle. National and international Storyteller and Photo-Journalist.
  • Jason Henthorne. Successful Fine Art, Black & White Photographer.

On August 28, the speaker will be Jim Miller. He will be speaking on the Photo Essay, and delve into the creative process. Jim will present his recent essay “The End Of Dreams.” He will discuss the significance within the story that makes up each of the five images. He will explain how the image making developed over time and the overall creative process.

This will be an informal and interactive discussion using the exhibited prints. The audience is encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts and insights. As Jim says, ” it is particularly valuable to look into an artist’s process to realize that there is no secret formula to creativity.”

Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own work. If you have a photo story or essay (completed or work-in-progress), please consider bringing the prints to share and add to the experience. After the presentation, there will be a chance to share your work with others.

Future dates for the Photo League meeting:

The Photo League meetings are held at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. Joining the league is free for FMoPA Members and $10 for Not-Yet Members. Contact FMoPA with questions at info@fmopa.org.
