NPR Host Meghna Chakrabarti Coming to Sarasota

NPR and WUSF Public Media working together to bring exciting speaker to the Tampa Bay area. The latest speaker is NPR host Meghna Chakrabarti, who will speak at an exclusive event at the Sarasota Yacht Club. Tickets are now on sale for the event which will be held on Tuesday, November 1.

NPR On Point

Chakrabarti is the host of the NPR show On Point. The show hosts intelligent conversations that help make sense of the world, with topics ranging from politics and the environment to health and popular culture. Some of the recent topics discussed in the show include:

  • The often-harrowing journey of immigrants to the United States
  • The unusual origin of trust and how it is built in the animal and human kingdoms
  • The Jackson, Mississippi water crisis
  • The perilous position of energy resources in Europe
  • The unusual plans among the super-rich to escape environmental catastrophe

“Meghna is a wonderful voice of genuine curiosity on NPR, and her conversations always help peel back the layers of events to explore dynamics underneath,” said JoAnn Urofsky, General Manager of WUSF Public Media. “Meghna is a delight to talk with, and we are so proud to bring her to Sarasota so she can meet listeners and supporters of WUSF.”

Tampa Bay listeners can hear the show on WUSF 89.7 Monday through Friday between 8 PM and 9 PM. Or it can be downloaded as a podcast.

Listen Up Luncheon

Listen Up Luncheon is a series of live events that WUSF has brought to the community. Some of the on-stage performances include Snap Judgment, Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me, and Science Friday. These events regularly sell out, so fans are encouraged to buy their tickets now.

The event on November 1 at the Sarasota Yacht Club will have a conversation with Chakrabarti, moderated by Dorey Scheimer, the senior editor of On Point. Some topics of the discussion will include Chakrabarti’s journey from a civil and environmental engineering background to host of On Point. Attendees will experience a delicious lunch and interesting conversation followed by a Q&A.
