By now you might have heard about a new type of steak coming to menus across Central Florida. That’s right. Plant-based steak in Florida will now be on the menu at more upscale steakhouses. At Modern Globe we want to know more about this meat and the company behind it.

What is Chunk Foods?

The plant-based steak that will be served is created by Chunk Foods, a biotechnology company. The company creates whole cuts of alternative proteins, similar to a steak, using fermentation technology. Founder and CEO Amos Golan says that this fermentation technology of soy and wheat mimics the texture, color and taste of traditional meat. The company even boasts that texture and juiciness of their plant-based steaks feels like the real thing.

Unlikes some other plant-based and alternative meats, Chunk Foods says their cuts use fewer ingredients and are fortified with B12 and iron. Here’s a screenshot from their website that boasts the other benefits of their product:

The company says their goal is to introduce a good beef product first. Pork, lamb and poultry are next.
