The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce Foundation is once again offering its very popular New Business 101 series and it is filling up fast.

The series for new businesses is designed to help those thinking of going into business or just starting out to ensure they have the best business plan, branding, marketing and accounting in place to prove successful, said Darla Sechrest, chief development officer.

“It really varies depending on where someone is in their business cycle,” she said. “In some cases, it helps them determine that idea for business is not complete. It ensures the back of the house is shored up and secure before they open their doors or in their first year.”

Twelve experts will speak on various aspects of business, including taxes, banking, human resources, construction licensing and more.

Those who complete the series get a complimentary six-month chamber membership. “The idea is we don’t want to ask them for money before they make some,” Sechrest said. “The group, itself, becomes a valuable resource because they will meet others in same stage of business they are and learn about all of the valuable education programs the chamber has to offer.”

Participants typically end up forming long-lasting relationships beyond the classroom and learning the tools they need to remain in business once the doors open.

How to participate

The series is free, but a $25 deposit is required to hold a spot.

The series begins Feb. 4 and includes four sessions. Those interested can register online.

Participants can take the class in person at 35 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, or can opt for the online versions.
