Hillsborough County teachers have a place to post their wish lists for the coming school year, allowing members of the public to help out.
The Facebook page Adopt a Hillsborough Teacher gives the public dozens of opportunities to pitch in, providing teachers with everything from erasers to disinfectant wipes, Sharpies and books.
“This group is for teachers in Hillsborough County and for community members who want to support them,” according to the site.
“Teachers will share their needs, specifically their needs pertaining to the notion that they are now teaching in a pandemic. If we are asking our teachers to step back into the classroom, in the midst of a pandemic, for OUR children…the very least we can do is support them as they do it.”
Specific sections are set up for each school, so teachers can list their needs and the public can purchase the requested supplies.
“Hello all, I’m Ms. Smiley. I teach 2nd grade at Broward Elementary,” one teacher posted. “I would love to continue inviting scholars into a welcoming environment by implementing new superhero themed ideas as well as cleaning and safety protocols for our micro community. I would really appreciate any help my way.”
Another teacher asked for mechanical pencils, hand sanitizer and a broom for the classroom.
