Airbnb is wrapping up the year with a bow, revealing the stays, categories and destinations that topped the charts in 2022. And unsurprisingly, Florida ranks among the top travel destinations. As poolside resorts and beautiful beaches continue to be the dominant categories for stays throughout the year.

In 2022, travelers searched for beachside stays and tropical resorts more than any other category. This naturally put Florida at the top of the list for one of the most popular Airbnb locations. As our 8,000+ miles of coastline attract visitors from all over the country every year.

Most Popular Trip Destination of 2022

Based on bookings from May 11 through September 30, these were the top 2022 travel categories for guests traveling within the U.S.:

  • Pool
  • Beach
  • Iconic City
  • Tropical
  • Countryside
  • Beachfront
  • Cabin
  • Surf Spot
  • Lake House
  • Ski Destination

These top categories are in line with statistics from pre-COVID travel. In 2019, Florida had four of the top ten U.S. cities for Airbnb rentals. With Davenport, Miami, Kissimmee, and Panama City Beach making the list. As COVID travel bans interfered with domestic and international travel over the past two years beachside destinations are becoming even more popular for those eager to get away.

However, beachside rentals weren’t only popular in Florida. In correlation with the rise of remote work, international travel also spiked this year. With many visitors returning to the U.S. for both work and leisure. In the year since US borders reopened to international travelers, Airbnb Hosts in more than 7,500 different destinations across the US have welcomed international guests.

Other interesting statistics on Airbnb international travel:

  • Between November 8, 2021 and September 30, 2022, stays of 28 nights or longer have been the fastest-growing trip length among foreign travelers to the U.S.
  • More than 30 percent of international guests to the US this past year have been between the ages of 30 and 40.
  • As cross-border travel has returned to the US over the past year, the most international guests have come from the following five cities: London, United Kingdom; Toronto, Canada; Paris, France; Seoul, South Korea; Mexico City, Mexico
