Young professionals working and living in the Brandon area can now network with others who are recently out of college or new to the business world, enabling them to make connections and enhance their skills. The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce launched its Young Professionals Program on Feb. 10 with a mixer at Fuzzy’s Tacos.
“It was good, a smaller group due to the launch and COVID, but a good group,” said Chamber President and CEO Brittany Tribou. “We did host it outside because we want people to feel comfortable. As we continue to grow the group, we think there will be a lot of interest.”
Membership in the program gives access to professional development activities, including quarterly Off the Clock mixers and Power Hour lunches. The first Power Hour will take place on March 11 at Holiday Inn Express Tampa-Brandon. The topic is “10 Ways to Improve Your Personal Productivity”. It will focus on the importance of clarity, energy and accountability.
The Power Hour is about growing as an individual, while the mixers are more about building connections, according to Tribou.
Those who attended the first event ran the gamut from financial planners to professionals in hospitality, marketing, and various other industries. Some participants are just one or two years out of college, while others have been in business for five or 10 years.
“I’m looking forward to being a resource and supporter for young professionals in the community,” said Kelly Peretz, the Chamber’s Membership and Administrative Coordinator. “Building connections is so important at the early stages of a career and the Chamber has the reach to attract young professionals from across the community to be a part of this program.”
