Kittens galore are coming to the Tampa Bay area. Two new cat cafes are soon to be opening up in both Lakeland and Tampa. The idea behind these cafes is to allow patrons to get some coffee, hang out with some cute cats, and maybe even adopt a new best friend. Having adoptable cats in these cafes helps the local shelters that are so often inundated with unwanted cats and kittens.
Here are the cat cafes opening in the area soon:
Cats & Cafeine in South Tampa
Cats & Cafeine is soon to open in South Tampa. Their mission is “to create a one-of-a-kind experience where you can hang out with adoptable cats & kittens, sip on some caffeine, all while benefiting homeless cats.” They are dedicated to not only saving cats but providing visitors with a unique experience. They are partnered with the rescue organization Cat Lovers Inc.
Guest will get to have 25 or 50 minute experience with the cats that they can book online. They will also host weekly events such as Cat Yoga, Cats & Wine Night, Cats & Movie Night, and more.
Kitty Cat Lounge in Lakeland
For Kitty Cat Lounge owner Cindy Skop, the main idea behind the business is to get as many cats off the street as possible. According to Lkldnow, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office euthanizes over 100 cats a month. The Kitty Cat Lounge hopes to put a sizeable dent in that number. It will be located at 946 E. Orange St. near downtown Lakeland.
The Lounge will offer 30-minute sessions with the cats. They are partnered with Saving Paws Rescue of Florida Inc. The Kitty Cat Lounge plans to open in August 2022.
Need to see some cute cats immediately? Luckily, there are already some cat cafes open in the Tampa Bay area:
Botany Cats in Lakeland
Botany Cats is Central Florida’s first mobile cat lounge and plant nursery. Housed within a converted bus, owner Janette Nettler, brings a range of houseplants across central Florida to botanists of all skill sets. She also travels with between 4 to 6 adoptable cats and kittens! Nettler partners with locally owned businesses, the farmer’s market, and pop up events in Lakeland as well as the Lakeland SPCA to create a rotating venue for Botany Cats.
Sunshine Kitty Catfe in St. Pete
Sunshine Kitty Catfe boasts a unique experience, adding the element of cats to a tranquil lounge setting. Customers can enjoy tasty drinks while relaxing in the company of our adoptable kitties. They are open Thursday through Sunday by reservation only. Visitors must be 12 years or older and they recommend visiting right when they open or in the evening. Cats are serious about their nap time!
