Shutts & Bowen LLP Tampa partner Ella Shenhav received one of the highest honors from the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit last month when she was awarded “Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Lawyer.”
The award was presented at the Annual Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Service Awards Ceremony, on May 27 by the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and Volunteer Lawyers Program of Bay Area Legal Services. Shenhav was selected due to her leadership roles, for services on her firm’s Pro Bono Committee and the hundreds of hours that she has dedicated to pro bono organizations over the years, including Project H.E.L.P., Bay Area Legal Services and Are You Safe.
“It’s very gratifying to be able to work with individuals that otherwise would just have no access to justice, no access to the legal system whatsoever because these are folks who have no idea how to even approach filing a lawsuit or standing against a lawsuit or dealing with landlords who are taking all kinds of liberties that are not supported by law or dealing with an abusive spouse,” Shenhav said. “They have no idea how to even start and to be able to give them an opportunity to have this access to justice is just fantastic.”
Shenhav credited the collaborative and driven culture of the lawyers in the area who are all working tirelessly as a community to help those in need. She called the experience “humbling” and said she has endless respect for those she was nominated alongside. Shenhav was also awarded with “Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Young Lawyer” in 2017.
