Women from throughout the Tampa Bay will dust off their high heel shoes, fancy hats and colorful attire to take part Sept. 19 in the second annual Fancy Women Bike Ride.
The two-hour bike ride in downtown Tampa is part of a worldwide movement of women seeking safe cycling.
Paula Flores first saw a social media post on the global event and commented “on the beautiful lady riding her bike in high heels and a dress. It was the international director for the site,” she said.
Flores hooked up with women of like mind and in a month, produced the 2020 Tampa event, which attracted 70 cyclists.
“I think it was exciting for everybody in the Tampa region because we were in the middle of COVID and everybody thought this was a wonderful cause,” Flores said. “And all the females who attended could stand behind the cause and at the same time feel wonderful and fabulous. The outfits these ladies wore, the vibrant colors, it was beautiful.”
Those who participate are invited to dress up and enjoy the socially distanced ride. They are also invited to bring a fancy picnic “with your parasol and besties” after the ride.
Everyone is asked to bring a mask and drinking water. Kickoff is at Perry Harvey Senior Park, 1000 E. Harrison Street, Tampa. The event is free.
