Private and for-profit organizations in St. Pete can apply for funding to serve residents in areas of social services, housing, community and economic development. Federal funding is available for St. Pete organizations that manage housing and community development initiatives.
Every five years, the city’s Housing and Community Development Department comes up with a Consolidated Plan. For this plan, the city receives federal funding to revitalizing the city’s low to moderate-income communities. The city uses this money to integrate economic, community development, physical and environmental development needs. Both private and for-profit organizations located within the corporate limits of St. Petersburg can apply this funding. In order to be considered, an organization must serve residents in areas of social services, housing, community and economic development.

St. Pete will disperse funding to an organization if they achieve one of the following objectives:
- Enhances housing opportunities by increasing the availability of permanent affordable housing for low and moderate-income residents.
- Creates environments that increase access to quality facilities and services, improve the safety of neighborhoods, restore and preserve structures of special value for historic and architectural reasons.
- Stimulates economic revitalization that creates jobs for low income persons, promotes long-term economic growth and empowers economically-disadvantaged persons to achieve self-sufficiency.
