Florida Arts and Culture Grants Awards $3.3 Million in Hillsborough County

Nearly 40 arts and cultural organizations and individuals in Hillsborough County will share almost $3.3 million in approved grants from the Florida Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture for 2022-2023. This year’s funding is more than double the award last year. The grants contain a mix of general program support, specific cultural projects, and cultural facilities funding.

The Hillsborough County Arts Council‘s $123,000 matching grant will help promote the development of Hillsborough County artists, institutions, and community organizations while enriching the lives of the residents of Hillsborough County. The Arts Council will use the grant funds to complete the 2023 Guide to Arts & Culture in Hillsborough County and provide workshops for individual artists and cultural organizations.

The arts and cultural venues in Hillsborough County were the very first to close during 2020, and among the last businesses to reopen. During these closures, local cultural nonprofits showed great resilience and continued to provide outdoor shows, online arts experiences, and more to engage the community at a difficult time. However, they are still recovering from the lack of business that occurred because of the pandemic. This high level of support from the State of Florida will help local institutions recover from a difficult period and ensure they remain here for residents to enjoy in the future.
