Photography enthusiasts are encouraged to join the Humane Society of Tampa and the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts as it hosts the first-ever community animal show at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. All proceeds benefit the HSTB and their ongoing services for stray animals in our community.

What is the Community Animal Show?

Animals are an integral part of our daily lives. From the pets we have at home to the beautiful wildlife we see in our state parks and natural habitats, animals shape our relationship with nature in ways we can’t even imagine. To celebrate this connection, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts will host their first Community Animal Show, featuring photography from local artists and residents.

The show will begin April 22nd, and anyone who brings an image of an animal for a community exhibition receives free admission. Photos can include local wildlife, pets, or any other subject you wish. Additionally, this exhibition will feature images taken at the Humane Society facility and hospitals by local photography enthusiasts.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts will have another animal-themed exhibit during the show, The Company We Keep: Photographs of Our Complex Relationships with Animals with photos from Jayanti Seiler and Jo-Anne McArthur. This exhibit explores the complex relationship we have with animals as they interact with us as pets, entertainment, and labor, and how that relationship twists and turns because of a changing power dynamic.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts has been an integral part of the Tampa Arts community for over 20 years. Founded by visionary Cynthia L. Flowers, the museum has since showcased incredible works of art and offers programs such as the free Children’s Literacy Through Photography Program for at-risk children, and fee-based adult photography classes, workshops, and children’s summer camps. Their work continues to inspire and enrich the Tampa community, bringing us closer together through art and entertainment.
