Free Performances at The Straz Center Celebrate the Many Cultures of Tampa Bay

Arts Legacy REMIX is back and ready to celebrate the many cultures of Tampa Bay from talented local artists who reside in the area. Each performance is FREE of charge and focuses on a different theme. 

What is Arts Legacy REMIX?

Arts Legacy REMIX is a free, diverse cultural celebration, that runs the gamut of live music, dance, storytelling and more. The performances strives to inform participants how art can heal and provide understanding in a skeptical and divisive time. Through a network of community members, the Arts Legacy team builds a series of performances highlighting certain cultures that themselves are foundations to the Tampa Bay area.

Upcoming performances for 2024-2025 seasons

Here are the exciting performances you can expect to see this season:

  • Friday, Nov. 8 – A Global Tapestry of Tampa Bay: The evening will be a presentation and celebration of the multi-layered blends of art, entertainment and inspiration that make Tampa Bay unique. Some of the artists included in this performance include: Fred Johnson, Gemma Briggs and Paul MacLeish (Celtic Bagpiper and Bouzouki players), Next Generation Ballet dancers, Hugh Huggins Jr. & Jazz Quartet, Kafkasso (Middle Eastern Flamenco Band) 
  • Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 – Seventh Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration (in TECO Theater): The Straz Center remembers Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a celebration that amplifies our commitment to manifest his dream. This celebration will be an evening of gospel music, the powerful writings of Dr. King and young voices sharing their hopes and vision for 2025.
  • Monday, June 16, 2025 – Fifth Annual Juneteenth Commemoration (in Jaeb Theater): The importance of Juneteenth – June 19, 1865 – will be recognized. This was the date when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they had been set free two years after the country’s official abolishment of slavery. This commemoration will be comprised of spoken remembrances, writings of historical importance and an original performance of music, poetry and dance created especially for this event.

Performances take place on the versatile Riverwalk Stage just outside The Straz Center. All performances will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. There is no cost to attend, but prior registration is requested.
