There’s a new exhibit at Gallery221 by internationally renowned artist Babs Reingold. The exhibit, called ‘Lost Trees,’ celebrates the beauty and resilience of trees. It also serves as a poignant reminder of their ecological necessity as human-driven climate change threatens habitats across our country and around the world.
Artist Babs Reingold
Reingold is a renowned American artist, born Caracas, Venezuela, whose mixed media sculptures, drawings and installations investigate themes such as the environment, poverty, and beauty. In Lost Trees at Gallery221@HCC, Reingold combines assemblage, hand stitching, and appliqué graphite rubbing to create a textured and immersive site-specific exhibit. It highlights the beauty we often miss in trees.
Elements like silk organza columns, upcycled paper bricks and yarn-wrapped tree limbs form a unique expression of nature. It captures the viewer’s attention and reminds them to appreciate what nature provides to us. These themes are common in her recent work, including a solo exhibit, ‘The Last Tree,’ which debuted at the SE Cultural Foundation in SOHO NY. This exhibit also had a six-month run at Burchfield Penney Art Center Buffalo, NY.
