As growth continues at the University of South Florida and its researchers are moving their work from the labs to the real world on COVID-19 and other world issues, Tampa Bay’s home school remains the fastest-rising public university in America.
This is the second time USF has won that distinction from U.S. News & World Reports, which ranks it among the nation’s top 50 public universities.
“USF is proud to maintain its position as the fastest-rising university in national rankings among institutions both public and private over the last decade. As USF continues to be recognized for the exceptionally talented students and faculty it attracts, both the university and our surrounding region, as well as the state of Florida, benefit,” USF President Steve Currall said. “We will continue our strategic focus on initiatives that will help propel USF to even greater heights in the future.”
In addition to that distinction, 19 USF faculty members are winners of this year’s Outstanding Research Achievement Awards, representing a variety of disciplines on all three of its campuses.
“USF’s faculty continue to pursue innovative research that inspires our students and benefits the communities we serve,” Currall shared. “I am proud to recognize this year’s recipients for their outstanding achievements and impactful discoveries.”
The faculty members’ research dealt with everything from translational materials for the hearing impaired to winning grants to develop novel polymer biomaterials combatting C. difficile infection, which causes symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening colon inflammation, and peer-reviewed journal articles on various aspects of psychology.
