Hillsborough County is hosting multiple open houses to collect feedback regarding transportation needs in the county. The County hopes to engage with residents regarding plans to improve, preserve, and build upon the current transportation system. These meetings come after a recent report that Hillsborough County had one of the deadliest years of traffic fatalities. Now the County wants to know what Hillsborough County transportation improvement will benefit residents the most.
The Hillsborough Transportation Planning Organization found that 255 people died in traffic crashes in 2021. This makes 2021 one of the deadliest years for local roads. Compared to other Florida counties, Hillsborough traffic fatalities are increasing. On the other hand, Pinellas County has seen a decrease in fatalities since 2016.
During the Transportation Open Houses, residents will get to talk about what they think are the major transportation needs in their communities. Feedback received from these open houses will be given to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
