In partnership with Lime, the City of St. Petersburg has launched a new shared electronic bike program. The city released a fleet of 300 Lime Gen4 e-bikes across Downtown St. Pete. They are available now.
“Getting around Downtown St. Petersburg should be safe, affordable, easy, and convenient for our residents and visitors,” said St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. “Lime’s Gen4 e-bikes are smooth, eco-friendly, and comfortable. We’re pleased to add this amenity as another green complement to the other modes of transit enjoyed by our residents and visitors like walking, e-scooters, the Downtown Looper and Central Avenue Trolley, and the SunRunner.”

Lime e-bikes have a battery-powered motor that provides assistance to the rider. This allows them to pedal further and faster with less effort.
Riders will be able to access the e-bikes via the Lime app and Uber app platforms. Riders who qualify for discounted rides may opt-in for Lime Access, Lime’s affordability program. You can learn more about it here.
How e-bikes work
E-bike technology is a form of transportation that utilizes an electric motor to assist the rider’s pedaling. Riders can control the motor through a variety of settings, including pedal-assist, throttle, or a combination of both. Pedal-assist technology uses sensors that detect the rider’s pedaling speed and force. This provides assistance that can make uphill climbs and longer rides more manageable. Throttle technology, allows the rider to control the speed of the bike using a twist or thumb throttle. Similar to a motorcycle.
