NPR War Correspondent Mary Louise Kelly Coming to Sarasota for “Listen Up Luncheon”

NPR war correspondent and book author Mary Louise Kelly to Sarasota this October 27 for WUSF’s “Listen Up Luncheon” series. WUSF Public Media will put on the event which also includes a special VIP, private reception before the event. Tickets to the events are on sale to WUSF members and go on sale to the general public September 21 at 10 a.m.

Who is Mary Louise Kelly?

Now co-host of NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Mary Louise Kelly is known for her decade of reporting as a national security correspondent from conflict areas across the world. She has tracked CIA and military troops through the Khyber Pass and reported from Hamburg mosques, Baghdad streets and Belfast bars.

Kelly has also turned her expertise in war zones to fiction writing and authored a debut espionage novel, “Anonymous Sources,” plus a second novel, “The Bullet.” Most recently, she authored the parenting book “It. Goes. So. Fast.” about choices she had to make balancing reporting on world affairs with being a mother of two boys.

Kelly’s first job was pounding the streets as a political reporter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She made the switch to broadcasting in 1996, joining a team that launched the BBC/Public Radio International show “The World.” She has worked at CNN as London correspondent and reporter for the BBC and elsewhere.

What is the “Listen Up Luncheon?”

WUSF’s Listen Up Luncheon series gives residents of the area a chance to meet and ask questions to some of the world’s most prominent journalists, writers and more. Held each year in Sarasota, this event will be hosted by the staff of WUSF Public Media.
