Newsweek has named Publix Supermarkets the number-one supermarket chain in America for customer service.

More than 25,000 U.S. customers who have shopped at or purchased from Publix in the past three years participated in a survey for this award. Newsweek based its final assessment and rankings on how likely customers are to recommend various companies to their friends and family.

Customers were also asked to evaluate companies in the area of professional competence, communications, customer focus, range of services and accessibility.

“We are honored to be recognized with this award by our customers,” said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous. “Publix associates work hard to treat our customers like royalty, and we’re grateful to be acknowledged for customer service excellence in our industry.”

Newsweek lists the top three to five companies in each of its 160 categories.

What makes Publix such a standout in customer service?

“Publix people have always made the difference,” Brous said. “Our founder, George Jenkins, once said that we are in the people business and just happen to sell groceries. Our associates own our company and ownership makes a difference as well. We tend to take care of things better when we own them, and Publix is no exception.”

She added Publix associates deliver on the company’s promise of customer service each and every day, striving to earn and retain customer business.

“Our average tenure of store managers is approximately 25 years of service,” Brous shared. “There’s longevity and skin in the game. We are passionate about food, our customers, each other and the communities we serve.”
