The Russian Ballet Orlando will bring its troupe to the historic Polk Theatre in downtown Lakeland in early April for its production of Cinderella. Tickets for the matinee and some balcony tickets for the evening performance are still available.

“We do 20-30 productions a year. For us to leave our home theater was challenging until we came up with this historic theater,” said Katerina Fedotova, Artistic Director and President of the Russian Ballet Orlando. “It reminds me of growing up in Ukraine and going to the opera houses. It is nice going back to a theater like that.”

After the first two months tickets went on sale for Cinderella, the ballet opened ticket sales for a matinee. The 1,500-seat theater will be at 50% capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions and all guests must wear masks until seated.

The two-hour performance turns what is normally a three-act ballet into two acts. The shows will take place on April 3 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Doors open one hour ahead of the performance.

Those attending will view the evil stepmother and her daughters on stage. “With their unsuitable behavior, the audience cannot help but laugh and enjoy their humorous and excessive performance,” according to the ballet company. “In the midst of all the drama, there is our favorite, most loving Cinderella who finds happiness with her Prince Charming and they dance their final dance, and of course, live happily ever after.”
