Senior Connection Center will host its annual Rise & Shine fundraiser on May 28 to support the many programs it directs to keep seniors healthy, safe and social.

The private nonprofit, which connects seniors to the services they need, provides the Elder Hotline to direct people to available services, free Medicare counseling through the SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) program, and health and wellness initiatives, including chronic disease self-management and more.

The annual fundraiser helps pay for those programs and for mini-grants the Center awards to individuals, for-profits and nonprofits to add new services for the elderly, said Patty Suarez, Public Information Officer for the Senior Connection Center. “We help people figure out what they need, what is covered, etc. We even get people on a waiting list to determine their eligibility for Medicare and how they can stay in their own homes as they age.”

In some instances, the Center provides one-time funds for crisis that need immediate attention, Suarez said. The funds could be used if a refrigerator or hot water heater is all a senior needs to stay in their home, for example, or if a car needs to be repaired.

Those interested in the virtual Rise & Shine fundraiser can support the event by becoming a sponsor or by sponsoring a table, which will include breakfast boxes for guests that will be delivered to their home or business. Registration for the fundraiser will open soon.
