Tampa K-12 Students Can Still Enter 3R’s Art and Poetry Contest

recycle project

The City of Tampa’s Department of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management is calling for submissions for the 2023 3R’s Art & Poetry Contest. The contest is asking for art and poetry submissions that celebrate environmental stewardship through the importance of the 3Rs:

  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Recycle

Students in grades 3 to 12 from any Tampa school, homeschooling program, the MacDonald Training Center, and the other City of Tampa programs can participate.

What is the 3Rs Art and Poetry Contest

The contest is an outreach education program that encourages participants to think about environmental stewardship in a new way. Through creative works, students are encouraged to express their thoughts about the changing planet. The contest also reminds them that it’s possible to create change at the local level through active participation in the City’s recycling program.

The city will display winning artwork on recycling collection vehicles. The winning poetry will receive a display spot at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park.

“Every year we continue to be astounded by the incredible talent, words, and visuals created by our applicants,” said Edgar Castro Tello. He’s a City of Tampa Recycling Specialist. “Through their art, we want to challenge students to think beyond recycling and embrace new waste reduction habits. Bringing some focus to reducing and reusing. Bringing attention to the rising concerns of ocean pollution, litter, and waste production is a way these young artists can remind us all that it’s beyond just young people’s responsibilities. It’s all our responsibility.”

Students must submit all artwork and poetry online or in person by Friday, February 8, 2023. Click here for instructions, rules, and regulations on the 3R’s Art & Poetry Contest.
