On Friday, the CareerSource Pinellas will co-host the Summer Youth Career & Resource Fair. This has the potential to be a transformative event for young individuals between the ages of 16 to 24. It gives them the chance to explore career opportunities, access valuable resources and connect with potential employers. Summer employment can always turn into something more, perhaps even a career.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the youth labor force, defined as 16- to 24-year-olds working or actively looking for work, grows sharply between April and July each year. During these months, large numbers of high school and college students search for or take summer jobs. During this time many graduates enter the labor market to look for or begin permanent employment. However, as of August 2023, national youth employment still had not returned to the pre-COVID high of 61.8 percent in July 2019.
