The University of Tampa is launching a new graduate program that could be just the degree entrepreneurs, communications directors, and other business executives seek.
The first cohort of students pursuing their master’s degree in Social and Emerging Media will officially begin in the fall. Stephanie Tripp, the program’s director, said people are already showing interesting and applying for the program.
“We were looking for a way to draw in a different group of students. We have a large demographic of millennials” and other business people who may want to add social media skills to their resume. This is the kind of program not readily available to all Floridians, so it made sense, Tripp said.
The program starts with an overview of social and emerging media, followed by a digital storytelling course.
Other courses include:
- Visual Design for Emerging Media
- Audio and Video Production for Emerging Media
- Social and Emerging Media Strategy and Analytics
- User Experience and Audience Research.
“We’ll get a number of our current undergrads from across our college and from the College of Business,” Tripp said. “Also, mid-career folks who might want to get a master’s because they want a promotion, or they’ve been in their field for a while and feel behind the curve on technology. Someone might want to start their own business or already have their own business.”
