Hillsborough County is asking the public for input as they plan to expand services and facilities at Veterans Memorial Park and the Rear Admiral Leroy Collins, Jr, Veterans Museum.

Veterans Memorial Park and Museum is a cultural center for Tampa, honoring veterans of all eras and providing a beautiful venue for regional ceremonies to honor the Armed Forces. As Hillsborough County plans for the future of the Memorial Park, they are inviting the community to an open house to discuss plans for use of the grounds and improvement of services.

The park is home to 14 war memorials including Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Vietnam, World War, World War II, Spanish American, Fallen Heroes, and Committed Forces memorials. The Memorial Park is also home to the Rear Admiral Leroy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum and the Veterans Resource Center.

The park itself is the customary venue for Tampa area ceremonies, along with a variety of other organized events. The oak trees and fields provide a beautiful backdrop along the Bypass Canal for reading, picnicking, and relaxation for guests and veterans. It’s open to visitors daily from 8am to 5pm, except select holidays.

The University of South Florida is facilitating the open house from 4-7pm on Thursday, March 31. They will seek input from veterans and community members on how the park facilities could be used, and what improvements they would like to see to make the park an even more enjoyable and educational center within the community.

The open house will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park Resource Center, 3602 N. U.S. Hwy. 301, Tampa, FL 33619. An online engagement opportunity will also be available for three weeks following the open house.
