Work-from-home landscape increases need for computer security

When offices shuttered rapidly as the COVID-19 health pandemic hit in earnest, companies sent employees home with laptops and trouble – a possibly increased risk of cybersecurity attacks.

KnowBe4, a Clearwater-based online security company that is about to file an IPO (initial public offering), has, as a result, seen its business grow with greater demand for its security awareness training and simulated phishing platform.

It has also added a new feature to its PhishER product called PhishRIP™, which helps security professionals remove, inoculate and protect against email threats faster, said company CEO Stu Sjouwerman. “PhishRIP looks at any user-reported message in PhishER and searches and optimally quarantines similar messages across all the users’ inboxes within an organization. Any messages found are then ready for further analysis, quarantine or permanent deletion by the incident-response team.”

KnowBe4 offers user training, a fully automated and simulated phishing attack program that allows employers to test their employees’ skills. It also conducts reporting that gives a company statistics and graphs for training and phishing to show them their return on investment.

The company passed a milestone of 1,000 employees in August while celebrating its 10th year in operation. In its most recent quarterly report, KnowBe4, which touts itself as “the provider of the world’s largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform,” announced 25% higher sales than in the second quarter of 2019.

Its system is used by more than 35,000 organizations around the world.
